The Advances in Cloning
So, I was reading a National Geographic magazine when I stumbled upon an article about cloning extinct species. A team of reproductive  psychologists led by Jose Floch injected the DNA of last Bucardo(Capra pyrenaica pyrenaica), which became extinct in 2000. After many implantations of the DNA in goat eggs emptied of theirs, one mother, a cross of a Spanish Ibex and a Goat, carried a clone to term. The team performed cesarean operation, were they  cut open the adamone insted of haveing it come out the *other way*, and delivered the 4.5 pound Bucardo clone. Only ten minutes after birth it died because of a giant extra lobe on the lung as thick as a liver.

This is the cloning would work, using the Passenger pigeon as an example:

1: First, it is required to have some of the extinct animals preserved DNA. The DNA is compared to relatives of the species that are suitable for the task, in this case the rock pigeon.
2: The DNA is synthesized and mutations that distinguished the Passenger pigeon are picked out, key things like a red breast and a longer tail than the rock pigeon.
3. The DNA is swapped with the Rock pigeon stem cells, creating Passenger pigeon stem cells.
4.The new stem cells are then inserted into future eggs and sperm. These are then inserted into Rock Pigeon eggs.
5. The hatchlings of these eggs will be rock pigeons bearing Passenger pigeons eggs and sperm. This will need to breeded.
If all goes well, we could get something that looks, acts etc. like the extinct species, but is it actually the species?

There are benefits to reviving species. Reviving Mammoths and other large grazers  and moving them to siberia could change the moss dominated tundras back to the grassy steppes they were 12,000 years ago. The Jurrasic park series disastrous consequences after the revival of dinosaurs, at least in the popular imagination. Dinosaurs have no chance for survival now as we only have chances of reviving species that died died the past tens of thousands of years ago because of the natural rates of decay. Leave your thoughts in the comments if you think it’s a good idea to go ahead with reviving extinct species and what you think the could do to planet Earth.

  1. LUNG LOBES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on the species. For example, if mosquitos had gone extinct, I don't think that anyone would want them to come back.

In class we did a project on endangered species, and if any of those animals go extinct, I definitely think humans would want to retrieve every one of those species. Or think of those amazing creatures like the Wooly Mammoths, having them in the world would be incredible.

    Over and out.

  2. In my opinion this might be national geographics wrong information
but last week sci show representative of science in USA said that there attempt of cloning a goat the enzymes and genetic material is in the verge of ripping apart because of over sized stem cells and leads to horrific mutations the 2 goats that were cloned are considered luckiest cloning .One in russia One in america both had crumbled bone structure no reproductive organs and very weak T cells and Rabies like syndromes but the advance in quanta computers lets the cells grow in 2 places at once which simulates constant growth.BUt my ideas about cloning are really doubtful.

  4. Bringing the dinosaurs is bad enough, cause you don't want to go to school if there are Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptors or any other carnivorous dinosaurs prowling. It would be Jurassic Park in real time and real life! I would not be willing dinosaurs in the year 2020! I would be in my first year of university/college! No dinosaurs for me!

  5. I believe that bringing back an extinct species could be a benefit to the earth. Many of the modern day species, which have gone extinct were because of man and our need to destroy the environments that we live in. It would give us a chance to start over and ensure that the species is able to survive for future generations.

The revival of species that went extinct, because of natural causes, could present humans with unforeseen dangers. I am not sure what those could be but you just never know how a species could react when put into an environment where they are not comfortable in. In most cases, evolution has given species the ability to survive and adapt to their natural environments. Taking them out of their natural environments could present us with greater problems.

I think that cloning and stem cell research has its benefits. It can aid in medical science breakthroughs and help us rewrite some of the wrongs towards species, which we, as humans, have treated unfairly.

  6. from my opinon i think that it is pretty cool to bring back horstorical exinct animals restoring a animal that use to be extinct.i dont exactly understand how they could be brought back as a extinkt animal.

in my perspective cloning would be good for the younger children that has not been around when the animals use to be around on our land.

  7. Bring back extinct animals? Sounds good to me!

Sounds like a good chance for humanity to say their sorry to the animals they've killed off- not like they would talk back or anything... (Insert shifty Eyes picture here) (GASP) They could make Dodo birds PETS!! That would be... AWESOME!!!

change for the harming that we have done to mother nature and bring back the good animals back.

plus if we could clown stuff i would clown almost everything in my simple opinion i think having a clowning device in our world would be awsome :) Mr.boxMAN out

  9. I find it amazing how much science has grew, and is still continually growing over the years. I would like to know how long it took them to do the whole process of this experiment of cloning.

I think that it is a significant achievement that they have managed to do this cloning even if the product only lasted for 10 minutes. If they managed to complete the experiment with a product that didn't die within the hour afterward, we could have a chance to undo all the bad things we have done to the poor animals in their natural habitat.

I think that the most interesting part of this is that this is something that year s ago we wouldn't have believed we could do it. Yet, we did. So if we can do this, imagine what are future could hold. We could accomplish anything! I believe that it would be amazing to have taken part in that experiment and I believe that cloning is the next big thing.

  10. I think that it would be cool to have dinosaurs and i think that maybe they would still be here if we as mankind could have kept them if we were not selfish and destroyed the nature that they live on. Cloning sounds fun and if i could clone something i would clone my baby brother so i could have one in my house and his mom can have him also.

    WHAT WOULD YOU CLONE??????

  11. Cloning would be hard in this time but maybe in the next thirty years the scientists will probably be easy because in the generations are going fast and alot of stuff is being made so for all we know it could be made in three and if it is made and they bring back the mammoths it would be so cool and the kids would be able to know what it was like and it would give them a chance to experience that no one thought that anyone would see and we would bring back other things. There are also other disadvantages it could go wrong and the animals could go weird and then the project and stuff would go all waco and it could keep creating and then we could decreas population

  12. Cloning Extinct species is a good way to get a fresh start with extinct species. If we can clone all the dinosaurs back we can make a REAl jurassic forest. It gives a chance to give humankind to have a second chance to make sure the animals will not extinct. We can give them a second chance on earth also. How cool will it be to have dinoaurs in 2000.

DNA geting in the goats eggs.Being 10 minuites alive is not cool.
I do not think that this post is from national geographic magazine.I think that jose floch is really good writer.

I think that cloning would be an exciting event. However, I do not think that it would be fun having two animals in your household. Especially if you own a wild animal like a tiger. For example, If you did have a tigger(not saying you would), but if you did, it would be scary having a ferocious animal in your place, then having it cloned. Cause if you were to clone a tiger, it could be really dangerous to have two tigers in your house. And first of all, if you do have a tiger in your house, you are just plain out stupid.

However, if you were to look at a different point of view, it could be a really good thing to have an animal cloned. Cause if you were to have a cute little hamster or a bunny rabbit or even a bird, at least the original animal would have a friend.

Ok, so maybe, just maybe the reason on why it would be good to clone an animal is just a little crazy. But my point is, in order to know which one is better, you gotta look at both points of view and you have to think hard and long. And even if you do not wanna talk about cloning, it is still fun looking at different perspectives on whether or not you would want an animal to be cloned.

  15. So if someone died in your family you can now clone theme, It probably mess them up because they may think they are still past and
Animals will not be involved to the affirmant we put them in, But it will be so interesting to see the person or animal theme agen,
Can i be the same with trees minerals fluids. No because minerals and fluids are not alive, so you can probably bring the earth back if we ever kill it? Yes but it will not have air or water or life it will be a gas planet perhaps or the next mars and it may be out of it's orbit. So if the sun went out in about 100,000,000 yers form now can we relite it/bring it back to life.

  16. If I was able to clone something I would definitely clone a tiger.

it will aslo help so if you had alot of money then yo could even clone there DNA and there back with you.

But on the other hand this idea might be ery bad and dangerous as it says in the post that it was dangerous and killed or mustatedd them into horrible creatures so that could end up badly like a psycho killer rabbit or cow running around new york like godzilla
except a cow or rabbit just breaking building running around the world.

Also what if a primeminester or the president or mayor goes totally crazy and taakes hostage kids or adults and ijects it into them and they turn into zombies and eat the whole earth and then what.

Well then i kinda think its a bit of a bad idea and they should just stop so nothing like that ever happens and the world is safe from mutants or like in x-men when a normal human just want to be human again or it could work out good and they could accept that they are mutants and help if there is like a nuclear war or they could give to much power to certain state and then that state feels undeabale wich they are and takes over the world

But i must admit it would be kinda cool to be able to be like a superman and travel the galaxy and have a unlimeted life and look like a 20 or thirty year old and know waht is out there and beyond areself as like every human wants to know that there is or not anything but i am thinking that there is good and bad reasons of mutating

  17. If there were something that could be cloned and actually be able to survive for more than ten minutes and live in the wild for a long time, we might have a species that will have a life again in our world, even after their land was taken from them. If there was also a way to bring back destroyed habitats, that would just make it easier to help them survive.

When they transfer DNA to a different egg, there should be a way to stop the animals from getting crushed bones and diseases for different reasons in different animals, there would be a lot of extinct species to bring back to life, reform or expand habitats for, or make new habitats for them to survive, and it would take a long time to do so, especially if their habitat required tall or old trees. If there actually were a way to clone that worked, the possibilities would be endless for so many things in the world.

If cloning worked on animals, and if they tried on other things and it worked, there would be a lot of things that you wouldn't have to do.

  18. I think it would be a good idea to bring back extremely endangered or extinct animals but bringing a Wooly Mammoth would be bad, because they would have a a hard time adapting to our climate on Earth right now.Though if you brought back animal hat went extinct recently that is a great idea. Also I hope hat there will be human clones it would be awesome to have a clone of yourself that would be awesome!

  19. good job, if they ever clone people they should only do it on animals because you do not no what will happen to humans.if there particle sels expand they may get really hurt or worse maybe die.we should not over hunt the animals in the first place and we would not have to clone them. Why do we have to clone animals if we could have just stopped over hunting.

I agree what mystery genius said about it is hard to believe that we are that much closer to cloning animals wouldn't it be great to have the extinct animals back if every thing goes well we will have the dead animals back

  20. In my opinion, this idea of cloning species may benefit our whole world or it could fail miserably. The benefits of this cloning idea would be that carnivores could pick their prey easily and more efficiently and for the herbivorous, they have more grass and leaves, so they would not have a problem eating.

This idea is well and good but, if they trying cloning animals or other things got mixed together, it would create a whole new species that we humans have to try and deal with. But still, the idea of cloning DNA's is fantastic.
If this idea is done perfectly, it would benefit lot of things in the future generations like educations. It could benefit medical research and it would change our beliefs about science.

  21. It would be interesting to revive long extinct creatures, like the marsupial, the Tasmanian Wolf. There would be consequences, but there would also be advantages. For example, it would be amazing to see a Wooly Mammoth or a Sabre-Tooth Cat, don't you think?

The only successful cloning was Dolly, the sheep. She was born on July 5th, 1996 to three mothers. She died February 14 2003 because she had a progressive lung disease and severe arthritis. During her life, she had six lambs, Bonnie, twins Sally and Rosie, and triplets Lucy, Darcy and Cotton. But now I'm getting of track.

I also read this article, and found it extremely intriguing. I do like the idea of cloning creatures, and I do think it would be cool to see these creatures, but they would be held in captivity for the longest time before they were released into the wild. There is advantages, but the disadvantages outweigh the latter.

  22. Hey, first things first, I think that you did a great job on the blogpost! This is the first response that I have written on this site, aside from my brothers. However, I will try my best to respond well. I think that if it was possible to clone successfully, it would be nice to bring back all of the species that us humans have destroyed, or to help the populations of animals, that are on the brink of extinction increase. But I highly doubt that will be made possible (at least for many seasons to come). Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers that hopefully it will be.

  23. I don't believe that cloning will aid mankind any, for the animals that you can revive we know all about and we can't revive prehistoric animals that we know nothing about so all and all it does nothing until perfected but, that will take years, maybe decades to perfect and what happens when the first human test is performed, what if it fails...

  24. Well Cloning can come in handy and also very dangerous and destructive, First of all the Cloning could be good because we could bring back the animals that once was extincted and many scientists have wondered back to life and examine the wondered such as the color of a Dinosaur or a saber-tooth or a Wooly-mammoth. Examine the muscles and the precise size and weight.

Then there is the Destructive way that it could be dangerous because then mutation and additional problems spread to mankind. Plus the Prehistoric animals tearing and decreasing population of mankind by murder. They will destroy our world. But, The dinosaurs will probably have troubles adapting to temperature and the environment and the atmosphere that is unknown to them.

In conclusion, I think it will be totally dangerous.
