Crisis in Ukraine

So apparently, Russian Rebels and the Ukrainian government and soldiers are ready for a truce. I thought it would turn into some nuclear fueled war, but that’s coming from a kid in Grade 6. That  isn’t exactly the Ukrainian government now is it?

Now, back to the real stuff. First of all, this whole shabang is referred to as the Euromaiden Movement and took place on the 22nd of February, 2014. The cause of this movement was the procrastination of restoring the 2004 amendments to the Ukraine Constitution and the complete pardoning of arrested protesters instead of amnesty.  The protesters took control of government buildings in the capital city of Kiev where the Ukrainian Parliament voted to restore the 2004 Constitution of Ukraine.

As a result, President Yanukovych was overthrown and fled to Russia.  There were nationwide protests in East and South Ukraine against the government in Kiev and nationwide destruction of Soviet monuments.  This began the Crimean crisis and the Russian military intervention in Ukraine.  During this, Russia amassed large numbers of Russian troops near Ukraine’s borders, indicating that they would be a military threat if need be.

There were quotes from the current Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko saying, ”Look, Ukraine is fighting for peace.”

I sure hope he’s right,  that they’re fighting for peace.  Another quote from Poroshenko is, ” I’m ready to do my best to stop the war.”

The Ukrainian president and a bunch of NATO leaders agreed that Moscow,  (thats in Russia) should be punished for its role in the insurgency (Russia’s military being placed on Ukrainian soil without cause or permission). The rebels said that they are ready to declare a truce if an agreement can be reached on a political settlement for the mostly Russian-Speaking region.

As it stands now the European countries are all putting sanctions on Russia for their role in their interference in Ukraine’s political agenda.

Question: If you were the Ukrainian President, what would you do about the insurgents in the Ukraine?  Would you want to keep the peace or would you rather fight Russia knowing that you have the backing of so many other countries?

  1. Ok there are a lot of bad stuff going on in the world right now like the Ebola and our Ozone Layer being ripped to bits which is causing a lot of bad weather like It’s snowing in some parts of Alberta by the way I watch the news everyday. So everybody has a lot on their mind right now but I mean It’s still bad. But when this all ends which may not happen but if it does then I hope for the best you can’t do much about yep.

Ok you’re first question... If I was the Ukrainian President I would be very very scared to fight Russia I have read that they are the most armed Country in the whole world. So I would try to make peace at first if that did not work I guess I would try to fight but probably fail so yeah.

Ok so I’m mostly worried about the kids I mean all of this guns, bombs etc it must be so hard on them like if their parents die or something what can they do... Here is a hint they can’t do much it is the sad truth but I hope they know how to live on their own.

  2. would fight and beat them. They are on Ukraine land they have no right to be there. They are claiming that they are not doing anything. We all know they are and they think that will help. They will be defeated and they will fle back to russia and coware there.

There are too many viruses and wars just focus on one thing at a time. We are probable going to die from ebola before the war finishes. Seriously if we are going to die what is the point of war right now.

Ukraine has back up they could win if they wanted but they don't want to fight. They could win all they have to do is call the united kingdom but no they want to fight solo and lose but buyallmeans lose they don't want help.

  3. Well i’m not the person to fight but I hardly understood what you were saying but from what I understand, I would tell Russia to “us” alone and by us I mean Ukraine. But still Ukraine should have done what they were supposed to do. Anyway if I were Ukraine I would tell Russia to leave us alone, if they did not listen we would probably fight them knowing lots of people and countries had our back.

I think Russia and a little bit Ukraine should be quit acting like three year olds and start behaving like grownups. Russia has the biggest military but Ukraine does not so Ukraine would be at a disadvantage. Also why does war exist it just lets people get hurt, war should not exist but it does so a grade six girl doesn't have much say in what happens in the world.

Still I do not understand about Ukraine and Russia’s government but thats okay I don’t need to know that right now…….at least till later this year. No the point the point is I would not side with either Russia and Ukraine I think they are both acting like kids. WHY CAN’T THE WORLD STOP FIGHTING!!! Russia sill should get off Ukraines land especially if Russia has army and weapons involved. I’ve heard that Russian rebels and army have killed about 500 people its not good and I don’t see why we always have to fight its not right and I don’t like it!!!!! Well sorry for ranting, I rant…….lots and lots.

  4. If I were the ukrainian president, all I would focus on is keeping peace. I would only fight if the russians were to attack. If they were to let’s say bombed someport of ukraine, I would chose something a little less rational. All though… if I was still an 11 year old and have all that power… well, I don’t if russia would survive.

If I was really in that position, I would back down, fly to Alberta and stay in hiding until it’s all over. My big sister did a report on this for school, she said it might be the start of world war 3. Of course my little sister took it serious and was freaking out the rest of the weekend. My brother and I made fun of her. I’ve never really thought of things like this, but my little sister one the other hand, she always says, “Oh,what if theres a zombie apocalypse?” Or “What if theres a war that kills everybody?” I always laugh at that.

  5. It makes me very happy that Russia and The Ukraine are not fighting to the death with nuclear war. I had heard about the chaos of Russia trying to take over The Ukraine with their army and all of the disagreements with the government. I wish that the world would just stop trying to kill each other. The disagreement of Russia and Ukraine reminds me of the Hamas and Israel with the israelis trying to keep the land that the hamas want back and all the assassins and killing and blahdie blahdie blah! People are always talking about world peace and no one does anything about it! It’s just very annoying.
If I was the Ukrainian President, I would lock myself in my room and think about the situation for a little while and consider the circumstances in which the Country was in then if Russia wasn’t being too violent, I would tell the to tick off then say, “‘We do NOT want to start a war but if we have to, we will fight.’” In that event I would tell the Ukraine Government my plan and then ready weapons, just in CASE. I would do this because having a whole bunch of other countries at your side in a war against the largest(and probably most racist and rude)country in the world without allies is a BAD idea. Like they say, “Strenth in Numbers”. BYE!

  6. I want to first start off talking about weather I would keep the peace or fight the Russians. I would probably want to keep the peace because fighting means that you could lose and losing is harder than keeping the peace. Also, if other countries backed me there not the the ones losing in the long run Ukraine is. On top of that starting and finishing a war are not the same thing meaning that you can start a war but you still have the chance to not finish it. And millions will die because you didn't keep the peace and you could lose. So in the end I say I would keep the peace.
Next up, I am not at all sure what to do if I were the president of Ukraine being that you have so many decision to make. Also you would be worried about so many things including pro-Russian’s attacking and Russians attacking, so if you ask me i have no clue what i would do about insurgents. There would be SO many problems I go crazy and would get nothing done. So to sum it up I could not handle it at all being president or even living there.

  7. I’m actually kind of surprised how quickly the “war” ended. I thought it would escalate to the point that other countries would have to pitch in and the whole thing would be a big mess (and I was scared russia would win). I’m also happy that they sorted out this problem because, lets face it, russia lied that ukranian terrorists shot down a russian plane when really they got the idea that they should “defend themselves” and move half their military on to ukrainian soil. After that, ukraine shot down a russian plane.

If I were the ukrainian prime minister, I probably would admit it (even if I didn’t) and compromise that it was an accident and right before the meeting is over I would say that russia lied and they wouldn't care any more.

  8. If I was the president of Ukraine,I would be faced with a very difficult choice weather to fight with Russia or not. I would probably be a little persuaded just because most of the other countries were behind Ukraine instead of Russia, and would be willing to fight against Russia. That would make us (Ukraine) feel a little more in power than they actually have.Even though you have all the countries on your side, there is still a chance(just because Russia is so big) that you may lose the battle. Then I would get way over my head and probably make bad decisions and get even my own country mad at me. So maybe it is for the best if I was the president it would probably be for the best for me not to declare war against Russia.
    .

On the other hand knowing the kind of person that I am, and that do not like to declare war so I would probably choose the option of making peace with Russia instead of fighting with them. I would just calmly say “I just want to make peace with you and that is all”. If they would not except my peace treaty then I would declare war. Even though our odds are not really in our favor.

If I had a an choice to not be the president,I would probably choose that and flee the country and go somewhere else. I would not have the courage to even be in the country. So it would be the best if I was not in charge of a whole country.

  11. What I would do is I would do is try to make peace with them but if they don’t want to have peace then we would plan attack on the russians also if you're fighting against russia cause is such a big country then you have a big chance of loosing also if a large amount of people are in front of your country then you probably would get a little protective but i don’t think the president wants war he probably wants peace and thats what i would do if i was the president of ukraine another thing is if you're fighting against russia then lots of people that are not apart of the army will still be dead because of the destruction of the army plus ukraine is allies with canada so if canada is in the war to then some peoples moms and dads from canada will die and we canada is a place of peace and we prefer no war one more how could we know that the truce is a lie

  12. I would fight back especially knowing that I have so many countries as my allies. Because I believe going out there and making things happen. Instead of waiting for someone to come, pick my slack and save me and my country. Seriously what is ukraine thinking there waiting and waiting well thousands off there people are being killed. They need to make a move and they need to fast or they’ll have no one left in there country to fight for themselves.

Now about the the Russian military on Ukraine soil… bomb them bomb them all they have no right to be there.
